Just a short personal post today. A couple weeks ago in church we sang a song called, “A Thousand Hallelujahs” by Brooke Ligertwood. The last couple of weeks, this has been a perfect theme song. We are getting things ready to go back to teaching and to put it mildly, things have been really rough. It has worked out for the most part, but the getting there has been hard. I am being mindful to take time out for creativity as well. I keep reminding myself to find 5 things each day to be thankful for. Today were:
* writing
* painting
* students (starting Monday!)
* a new building
* my cute cats
I find myself comparing my teaching style to those of other teachers and I can’t do that. I am missing a few technology things that I should have as a teacher. My artwork is going slower than I thought. I get writing accomplished each day but it feels like I’m on a hamster wheel. I’m not as in shape as I’d like to be.
However…
Art is something I enjoy and I will get to teach it in a few months. After several weeks most technology issues should be resolved. Writing takes a lot of time. So does getting in shape. Step by step. Day by day. I also don’t need to compare my art; just do my best.
It’s so easy to get caught up in what is going wrong and what is going to happen tomorrow! But I don’t want to focus on that. I want to take each moment as it comes and put 1,000 hallelujahs behind it!
