Reflection + Reading + Relaxation

A short read!

As of May 17, I am restarting the book The Artist’s Way, by Julie Cameron, which I have read multiple times since discovering this book at Fabled Bookshop in Waco several years back. One of the prompts that the book introduces is to take me, myself, and I on a weekly artist date. I scribbled down a few things, but I still think my favorite is to visit a coffee shop for a few hours, reading, writing, drawing, and generally enjoying the atmosphere.

This weekly challenge is not just for those in the creative business, but for those who want to discover creativity in their own lives and fulfill some childhood dreams that have been pushed aside in favor of “adulting”.

Coffee shop time!

Some of the other options that I brainstormed for my artist dates:

  • Discover a new park
  • Go rock climbing
  • Visit a coffee shop and taste something new
  • Try a new restaurant
  • Explore an historical element of my city
  • Read a book in a day
  • Paint in a new style
  • Visit a bookstore that I’ve never been to
  • Visit a bookstore (an old favorite)
  • Outline a book project that I’ve just mulled over
  • Watch a favorite movie

I’m sure I’ll come up with more, but for now, this covers my love of exploration and includes creative endeavors while sticking to my budget. I am looking into some awesome things over the summer, but I’m trying to be smart about money and allow myself to share more of my personality within my work, too.

Throughout the summer I’ll be sharing my process, as well as some new creative insight I’ll get from this creative manual. I always enjoy how the book allows me to do the things I love and at the same time discover a couple new things about this art life! It’s perfect for the summer months as I work to increase my art markets and museum presence and also figure out how to grow my business.

Which will you choose? Which scares you so much that you absolutely must do it? Take the leap!

Always creating,

Hannah Marie.
