Back in March I wrote a poem about creativity…I tried to put it to music and I’m just not talented like that! However, I thought for those of you who follow my blog, you’d appreciate it. I’ll write more on the background of the poem (and even my attempt to string together a melody), but that’s another blog for another day. Read this. Maybe it can inspire you to write a silly poem on something you love, too!
It started off as the seed of a dream
Hannah Marie. (2025)
Just a hope that I can live from my art
I felt the worries and fears that this is too big
And I would never be able to create a thing
I was frozen by the comfort of the normal
Day to day steadiness that is easy
So I let my dreams evaporate to continue with the steady
To push aside chaos into my expected hole
And yet it bloomed! It was chaotic and awful
It looked like I must have used fingerprints
Or cotton balls, splashes of tears and dirt from my garden
Which I did — but I did it, even if it’s small
My creations are not excellent; may never be in a museum
But I show up every day, imagine beauty and laughter
And play! I follow a path of my own making, step-by-step
To draw and envision, practice, fail, and dream
It started off as a seed.
