Canceling: Yes or No?

I try not to make a habit of cancelling my plans, but several things in the last few weeks have made me say no instead of filling my schedule.

While I’m looking forward to goals with my business, I am keeping in mind that the long game is all about balance and sometimes it’s okay to slow down.

Weather worries

I chose not to drive on a day that threatened bad weather, and then we just ended up with a little rain. While I missed that time with friends, I reminded myself that there will be other opportunities. Sometimes the spontaneous ones are the best. It reminds me that there will be moments of disappointment and situations that cause me to make decisions between two good choices, but that is what makes life an adventure.

Sick days

I had to call in sick on a week that I really needed the hours. I know when my body is telling me to take it easy and when I can power through. It reminds me to take care of myself so I can be ready to go at work. It also reminds me in my business not to push so hard that I burn out because if I lose view of my creative goals, nothing will get accomplished. It’s okay to spend rest days and to use time for brainstorming, not necessarily creating content.

Limiting time

For budget reasons I’ve had to prioritize what I say yes to, and that includes moments with friends or even eating out. There are times when I can balance both, but as a general rule, I’m doing what I can to save up for necessary electronics for business right now.

Focusing on goals

I have several business and personal goals, and sometimes both collide. For example, my desire to get outside more is perfect because I want to work on plein air painting, too. I’ve learned to walk on the treadmill and read a book at the same time, which works for my intellectual goals. And I am even taking days to breathe, which isn’t always a complete day off, but days where I can work more slowly.

Where have you drawn boundary lines?

Pushing forward
